Party bonus clearing

Only got in 2 small half hour or less sessions on the weekend, and actually deposited the cash to get a $100 party reload bonus which clears at 3 points per $. I think the $2/4 level looks optimal for this bonus, so I think i'll play at that level until it clears. Should take about 4 hours in total if i'm 3 or 4 tabling.

In the first session, it felt like my super cold run was never going to end. Managed to lose three fairly big pots to firstly a gutshot on the river, secondly a runner runner straight, and the third was a particularly big pot where I lost with set over set. That pot alone was about 20BBs with 3 runners. Anyways the session ended about $50 down.

My second session appeared to be the turnaround i've been waiting for. Within half an hour i'd made a good 25BBs, and cleared a bunch of points towards my bonus. I think I received AA 3 times in the half hour, and it held up twice at showdown, and won once preflop where everyone folded to me. Also flopped the nut straight once which made up for two or three semi nasty suckouts for the session.

Anyways .. good to finally have another positive session, and have a decent bonus to clear as well.

Current bankroll: $10,800

Question for you:

At what point did you feel confident about moving from 1/2 to 2/4 (in terms of both bankroll and play)?

From reading your blog, it looks like you spent a long time at 1/2 (as have I) and then moved from 2/4 to 3/6 and 4/8 pretty quickly. Do you notice a difference in standard at those higher levels?

I only really moved up to $2/4 when my bankroll was $4,500ish or so ..just after i started this blog.

I would take shots at it when my bankroll was around $3k but only on very fishy tables.

I probably took shots at $3/6 when i was around $5k bankroll if the tables were fishy.

I still dont really play much $4/8 .. only really playing as bodog doesnt have $3/6 tables running.

I figure i'll probably get my bankroll to $20k before I try $5/10.

The main difference i find is the higher levels are more aggro, which leads to higher variance. Table selection becomes more important too, as there are easily tables full of tags who you wont make money from.

All up, the jump in standard from $1/2 to $2/4 is fairly significant i'd say. I still go back to $1/2 occasionally if i've been having a bad run to get some confidence back.
