Cake has now made the move to weekly instead of monthly rakeback payments which I think is a good move in that it should attract a few more players to the network.
Given the bankroll I run on there it's not going to make a big difference to me but i'll never complain about getting money sooner than later!

I actually hit up a few Cake $3/6 tables last night as they were looking pretty fishy, and promptly found a new fish that I need to hunt down whenever he plays. The first hand I saw him play was where he raised utg, and then fired again on the flop, turn and river before flipping over 63o on a KJ872 board. I was licking my lips. Obviously it didn't take long for him to bust out his 20BBs but at least he gave a few to me.
Ten minutes later I found him playing on another $3/6 table, with a vacant seat on his left. Could not believe my luck and sat down there as well. This time his 25BB stack lasted a good 15 minutes, and again he donated a fair bit of it to me. Happy days.
In total I probably played a good hour and a half, which is the longest session that i've played in a while - and another profitable one at that.

Obviously I can't be buggered creating my own rakeback from scratch, so it's not exactly original, being more or less just an affiliate page through rtr, but hey, it will do the job. On to poker news - I finally cashed in a Kamikaze .. for all of about $10. I think it was held at about 4am my time, so obviously I missed all the action, but hey, can't complain about any free money, given it only cost me some crappy Cake gold card like a 4 of spades. Bit of a pity that I couldn't win at least one more hand and it would have made me some decent cash.
My half hour session last night was a bit of a non event. Although I ended up about $50 in front, my stacks never really moved much. I did lose one 22BB pot where it was capped four ways preflop with me sitting on KK and flopped 762r. On the flop I got checkraised and with another caller I ended up just calling down. Obviously the check/raiser had TT, and turned another T. Grrrrr.

Cold .. but could have been worse
Had to put in a few more hands on Ladbrokes to make sure I finished in the top 3000 for a $100 rake race prize. Here's the results of the session

Interestingly with stats that terrible, I should have lost around 40BBs, but only actually lost 7.5BBs. Why? Well, mainly through cbets on the flop or turn getting everyone to fold. They basically kept me alive during the session, as can be shown in my AF:

A new graph .. interesting results
After a comment from TiocfaidhArLa on my last post, I've added a new graph to the blog, at least temporarily, which shows results by month split between poker profits/losses, rakeback and bankroll interest earnings. Who'd have thought doing such a simple graph could be quite useful for analysis? (oh and sorry about the size. dunno how to get anything bigger in there).
By the looks of it my total poker earnings are around 2/3 from rakeback and bonuses, and 1/3 from actual poker play. I believe that does seem reasonable for a limit player given the relatively high rake, but don't know of anyone keeping those kind of stats, and haven't read about it on 2p2 that I can recall.
I guess it really does highlight the need for a good RB/Bonus deal at all times!!
The graph also shows a few lean months lately for August, October and November. November I was expecting a much slower month due to a lower volume than usual. I'm probably expecting a similar result in December because I know i'm fairly busy this month most weekends so will be lucky to get in 3,000 hands this month verus the usual 5 or 6. I'd also note that i'd played more in the first few months of the year than I have been playing in any of the last 5 months.
So, what happened in August and October? Well in October it looks like I hit a fairly decent sized downswing, and was having a shocking run at showdowns. In almost the first 3 weeks i'd made a grand total of $100 including bonuses!! So in the end the final October figure was probably better than expected.
August was my real horror month. Even by the 27th of August I was actually down $350 for the month, and again had a good rally in the last few days, so results could easily have been much worse. It looks like one of the main causes was losing 100BBs at $3/6 in two hours, which is always going to be painful. However, the whole month appeared to be cooler after cooler, with a number of sessions having W$SD < 30%.
So overall, nothing really to worry about. A bit of variance in those couple months which given my low volume should be expected. I suspect that monthly analysis is not particularly useful, (albeit interesting) although could be used to potentially identify areas for further investigation.
I played for an hour last night, but struggled to find good tables. Ended up spread between $1/2 and $2/4 and quickly found myself down 40BBs to some massive fish who somehow thought T7o was worth a call against a raise on a flop of AK7 and called down to hit their two pair T on the river versus my AQ. (One of many, many beats that kinda sucked).
I kept at it though and recovered about 35BBs as these guys were massive fish. Bodog even gave me a profit for the first time in ages, although Cake gave me a losing session for the first time.

The importance of a large backup room
Whilst clearing away these bonuses and various deals on smaller poker rooms, I've noticed that its important to have a larger site as a back up to play on when traffic is poor. Its even more relevant to me, as being on Aussie time, my evenings are generally when most sites have their lowest number of players. In some cases there is not even a single table running at my game/stakes.
So, which is my site of choice? Fulltilt. I know Fulltilt gets knocked a fair bit on sites like 2p2 as a site where non Americans should avoid as other sites are softer. I find however, that although there are many tight players on Full Tilt, you are also able to table select a lot more, as more tables are actually running. That actually allows you to target the fish.
The other thing I like about Fulltilt is the relatively smaller rake structure for the games I play. I pay significantly less rake there than on say ipoker or cryptologic. So even though the rakeback is a bit lower at 27%, since i'm paying less rake in total, it basically evens out, or actually puts Fulltilt in front at some levels. (Although at 27% rakeback its still well in front of Pokerstars which is why I don't play there).
So when my tables have dried up on Bodog and Ipoker, Fulltilt is where you'll find me playing. My sign up of choice that i'd still recommend is raketherake (link on right) for the standard 27% rakeback as well as various races and freerolls.

Variance = upswing
Interesting how quickly things can change. I was almost redepositing on Interpoker only a couple days ago, and now all of a sudden i have nearly 200BBs for 1/2 on there, and 100 for 2/4. Admittedly its a lot less than i'd like to have, but considering I was less than half that a couple days ago, it's not a bad position to be in.
Got credited with around $50 in bonus and rakeback and then also played a very brief (around 15 minute session. So all up around 50 hands, of which about 15 were at $2/4 where I made another 20BBs. No real hands of interest, just all my TPTK hands held up, and a few of those went to the river 3 ways. My only nemesis hand of the session was 3 times I was up against 22 that had hit trips on the flop, and I called down with either top pair or two pair in each instance. Kind of odd to have trips hit against me so many times in such a small space of time, but I guess it happens sometimes.
Overall up around $100 for the session, thanks to some very loose fish who liked to call down.

Thought I was clawing back up
With a nice little rakeback boost, I figured I was on the way back.
Also first hand of a half hour session for the day i'm dealt KQs which flops KcQcQd with 3 runners. One guy raises flop and I just call, and 3rd runner also calls. Turn brings another club which villain bets out, I raise, and the turn gets capped in the end. River was a blank. Villain still gets in a raise but only calls my reraise showing a 9 high flush. Great start.
From then on it went decidedly backwards, with the usual horrific suck outs, and I actually dropped cash at the tables, although my rakeback kept me well in front for the session.
I've signed up at Interpoker with my account in pounds. The rakeback/bonus deal through RTR gives me approx 90% effective rakeback. Then you add on the cash equivalent payment of $120 for their ipod if I get 1,500 points by 30 November, and my rakeback is effectively over 100%. Nice.
I've actually found some reasonably fishy tables there too which is handy. I'm running like dog balls though with a VPIP of 21% ... ie i'm gettin no cards preflop, a WTSD of 34% ... a little low, particularly with such a low VPIP, and a W$SD of 35% ... very low .. ffs.
However, on the site i'm only $20 down so far, so with rakeback i'm probably actually up or very near to it. With such a low W$SD I should be down a long way, however, several hands i've won have been quite big. Including one hand where I had AcQh and flopped Jc4c7c, turn 2c so I have the nuts, and since the turn was heads up they allow unlimited raising, and i've ended up 6betting the turn before my opponent just called.
Anyways will see how it goes. Pulled in about 75 points out of the 1,500 that I need in a couple sessions, so I figure i'll get there relatively quickly.

Potentially good .. and bad news
Well looks like Littlewoods has indeed moved to the 888 network, and there does appear to be a reasonable likelihood rakeback will be carried over ... will be watching developments closely.
On the bad news side, I can't see the William Hill time played bonus anymore ... very very disappointing.

Hardly any play, but at least making a few bonus $
Well, I think i've played all of maybe half an hour since my last post, so its been a pretty quiet poker week.
I've played that almost entirely on Bodog, where my balance basically has not moved, but at least i've cleared another $20 or so in bonus, and should have about $10 in cashback too.
Anyways, I might get a bit more play next week, but should be going away at some stage which will put a dent in that.
Will be a slow start to September by the looks!
I have however cashed out another $2k, so i'm currently earning a bit over $1 in interest per day from my cash withdrawals, which doesn't sound like too much but does add up to about $40 per month, or $500 per year, which is a few BBs for doing nothing at all.

Cake payin me back quickly
At least i'm making up some more of my losses on Cake.
The $2/4 and $3/6 tables there donated another 30 or so BBs in total within a couple hours, so i'm gradually clawing my way back up.
Not a hugely interesting session though. I was hitting my cards reasonably often, but probably not more than my fair share. Had a fairly cool run on one table where my VPIP was down to 15% over 100 hands. I still actually ended even on the table though which is quite handy, so would have cleared a bit of bonus and earned some rakeback there as well at worst.
Also upgraded my Pokertracker so microgaming is now importing correctly again. Havent actually played there apart from one orbit though.
Probably wont get much in on the weekend and i'm going away for most of next week, so there wont be too much pokers.

Current strategy
Thought i'd better share my overall plan of attack, and then at least I can come back to it and check if i'm doing as planned.
First and foremost, my goal is to have a good rakeback or equivalent cashback VIP deal on all major networks. (and i'm always looking for a potentially better deal on each one.

If I have a good deal already on a network or the network is too small for me to bother with then I dont mind just hitting up a poker site with a sign up bonus such as through PSO (refer the link on the right).
I've done the pure bonus on:
- Pokerstars
- Ongame (hollywood & pokerroom .. hmm i should try to find a VIP deal at ongame ...)
I'm still looking for rakeback deals with higher returns on each network, but if I can't find one i'll simply pick a new sign up bonus offer. Given that i've signed up for a fair few sites now, often I receive a deposit reload bonus offer, which generally boosts the rakeback return quite substantially. It seems pretty rare these days that I don't have a site to play on with a significant overall return of rake paid (sometimes in excess of 100%).
Anyways thats it really...short and simple strategy.
So for the moment i'm playing Bodog for cashback and the first deposit bonus, william hill for the 5 hours played monthly bonus and Cake for rakeback and a reload bonus. Playing a bit of fulltilt for rakeback when there are no juicy tables on the other networks.
As far as actual play goes, I only had about 20 minutes to play, and couldnt' find any decent tables above $1/2 so ended up playing a bit of William Hill for the monthly 5 hour bonus, and a bit of bodog $1/2 where the fish bit me hard when I had two gutshots hit against me as well as a flopped flush with my opponent showing down 82s which he cold called a raise with. Given I didnt have long to play though I didn't really lose much.

Rakeback on non rakeback sites
Only time for a quick post, but hopefully a useful one.
Just got an email from rtr saying that Littlewoods is likely to join Pacific Poker network this year ... which means that by having an account on Littlewoods with rakeback, hopefully that rakeback will also be transferred over.
Since Pacific don't actually pay rakeback, this looks like a pretty good way to get over there with rakeback. Hopefully it all works out. Now that I think about it, I probably should post my overall rakeback/bonus strategy sooner or later.
Since one of my strategies is to have a long term rakeback account on every site, this is a huge bonus to me, so anyone else interested, and without an account on littlewoods, i'd suggest signing up there ... even through my RTR link on the right which i'd appreciate ... :) ... also try to clear the ipod bonus this month as well for a little extra bonus that they have running at the moment.
Will do an update tomorrow from the weekend .. so far travelling okay after a terrible start and the fish killing me, I turned it around and slaughtered a few fish.

Since one of my strategies is to have a long term rakeback account on every site, this is a huge bonus to me, so anyone else interested, and without an account on littlewoods, i'd suggest signing up there ... even through my RTR link on the right which i'd appreciate ... :) ... also try to clear the ipod bonus this month as well for a little extra bonus that they have running at the moment.
Will do an update tomorrow from the weekend .. so far travelling okay after a terrible start and the fish killing me, I turned it around and slaughtered a few fish.

June Summary
Yeah I know .. 2 posts in the same day ... but here's the summary anyways :)
My couple big downswings during the month of 100BBs+ really hurt a lot, but again I really can’t complain with the final result. My total time at the tables was probably less than 30 hours .. which I could check if I bothered adding up each of my posts, but I am too lazy for that!
Added a total of $800 in cash to my bankroll, and also have another $360 coming in August which I earned in bonuses, so $1,150ish for the month really isn’t too bad.
For the month I played mostly $3/6 and $2/4 on Littlewoods as can be seen from the bonus/rakeback stats below. Cleared probably $300 of the 24 bonus as well playing mainly $1/2 and $2/4. Since it clears at the same rate at either stakes I generally just look for the softest tables which are usually $1/2.
Finished the month on $9,300 (with $360 owing in August) which is equal to the highest point that I made it to for the month.
The gain of $1,150 for the month was made up of:
Bonuses: $1,310

- Maybe find a new site to play on and score some new bonuses
The other thing I want to do is to compare rake and rakeback between sites. At the moment my rakeback on fulltilt is 27% compared with say 40% on sun. However, Sun takes a much larger amount of rake in the first place out of each hand, so it looks like Fulltilt is actually a better deal. Will investigate further.
If it works out though, I may be playing a fair bit more back on Fulltilt, as there are always a lot more games running, and as long as you table select well, there are plenty of fish to catch.
The other achievement for the month was actually cashing out $2k mostly from Cake via neteller. I've now taken out more than i've put into the game which I think means i'm at least getting something right.

Back from my break
Got back on the weekend and was able to put in a few hours on the tables.
Cleared my Pokerroom bonuses, so that was a quick $210 boost all up, although had a bit of a dark day at the tables, when I continued to be 2 outered more than enough times for it to be memorable as abnormal.
I also finally started up on ipoker to see how that deal there would work out. Have to say it started horribly with a super quick loss of 50BBs on the $2/$4 limit tables. Whilst it was annoying, there wasn't much I could do about it. I was playing well, and just not getting anything. My WTSD was around 28% and my W$SD was showing around 25%. Had the 2nd nuts a few times which didn't help the bankroll at all.
Fortunately I was able to find some quite fishy players, and a couple maniacs, who managed to donate all of that back to me, and then another 20BBs. So i'm currently up after around 600 hands on the ipoker network.
I also entered a cake $15,000 freeroll using goldcards this morning. Around 950 runners, and I found myself on an average stack size of $11k in about 120th with about 230 players left, and 130 of those being paid. Unfortunately my holidays are over so I had to go to work, and sit out for the rest of the tourney. I wonder if i made the money ... will check tonight when i get home. Oh well!
Before I forget, what I do need to check though is the rake on ipoker. On face value it appears to be MUCH higher than fulltilt. Will have to check pokertracker.

Now a super fishy table!
Pokerroom was kind enough to give me a table with the average VPIP of around 74% for 5 players, including my VPIP of around 32 which was bringing the overall average down a lot!!
You'd think that would let me make a ton of cash, and at times I was doing fairly well. However my KdTd then managed to hit a 3 flush board. Unfortunately muppet #1 happened to have Ad5d. I 4 bet the turn, which he 5 bet ... so i figured i was in trouble and only called his bet on the river.
A few more nasty 3rd flush card hitting on the river to beat my top pair, and i think I ended up making about 1BB for the entire session. (Well that combined with the inevitable missing 5 flush draws and 2 OESDs in a row).
Playing Cake at the same time helped though, as one very aggressive player managed to donate about 20BBs to me by betting into me every time, including when i'd hit my hand. Thanks very much.
The Sit n Go's continue to be quite successful, although I'm still only playing a maximum of 10 pound tables. My ROI for the last 2 months has been somewhere near 30%, which is okay I think, particularly when you take add on the 40% rakeback and Sun's $20 bonus for 160 MPPs as well.

March summary
A few more fish on Cake last night enabled me to increase my bankroll a little further since my last post. It wasn't looking good when I was down 10BBs for a fair while, and then went to 15BBs before I finally hit a 2nd nut flush to take a 20BB pot, followed by another 10BB pot the very next hand with top 2 pair. Won a small amount on Pokerstars as I still have the $50 bonus to clear there as well, however the play there was much more aggressive. Luckily a couple times I really did have a good hand, and they paid me off.
March turned into my best month to date, beating February by a whole $50. I believe however, I played for considerably less time - less than 25 hours for the month. For the end of the month my bankroll made it to $5,750 which was a gain of $1,400 for the month. That was made up of:
Bonuses: $447.50
Playing a lot more of 2/4 (and still a bit of 1/2, although mainly on William Hill) has allowed me to increase the amount of bonuses I am clearing and increase the amount of rakeback I am receivin even though i've played fewer hours . Still nowhere near enough hands to tell if I am a long term winner at 2/4, but I am very comfortable playing there now, and have shown pretty good results to date.
I did manage to cash in the Fulltilt freeroll, however, should have done a lot better when i went out with a stupid hand. Chalk that up to experience i guess.

February summary
Well, February turned out to be a very good month for me. I think only December has been better, since I had a relatively poor January with one huge downswing. It was still profitable though but only through bonuses.
For the end of the month my bankroll made it to $4,350 which was a gain of $1,350 for the month. That was made up of:
Bonuses: $360
Overall moving up to playing a reasonable amount of 2/4 (although I still play a fair bit of 1/2) has allowed me to increase the amount of bonuses I am clearing, increase the amount of rakeback I am receiving, and since i'm also very careful on table selection at 2/4 i've actually been a winner on the tables as well so far.
Still nowhere near enough hands to tell if I am a long term winner at 2/4, but I will continue to play there when I see a looseish table (which is relatively often!).

Current sites and bonuses
Here’s the list of what I’m currently clearing / receiving:
- Fulltilt – 27% rakeback, and earn 500 FT points per month to qualify for the freeroll
- Sunpoker – 40% rakeback, and a $200 reload clearing at 5 MPPs per $
- William Hill – 30% rakeback and £5 per hour for the first 5 hours

- Cake Poker - 33% rakeback, $600 sign up bonus, 1,000 raked hands to qualify for the freeroll. (only a month to go and still half to clear!!)
argh, i have a lot of work to do over the next month or 2. I better not sign up for any more as i've only completed the fulltilt one so far this month!!!
