First tourney for ages

Played in the first depositors freeroll at Pacific which is the first Tourney i've played in months. Was doing okay, but only had a 1,600 (starting 1,200) chip stack with blinds at 100/200.

My exit involved an early raiser going all in for his last 320 chips, and me then pushing all in with AQo on the button. The SB with 3,200 chips called my bet with A5s. Flop 5, turn 5 and thats all folks. Not sure how he managed to find a call for half his stack with A5 ... but I guess that happens ....

Also played another 3 tables - 2 bodog, 1 pacific for a couple hours at the same time. They were not treating me well, and I was rapidly down 25BBs before recovering all but $4. I just couldnt hit my draws early, and saw some very nasty suckouts. Thankfully the fishies paid most of it back, although one fish who would call down with a single overcard every time seemed to end up quite a lot by the time I quit as he seemed to keep hitting. Annoying.

I tried the trial version of the Bodog handgrabber, and it appears to work a treat. Might have to make that a purchase, although it will eat into my bankroll a little, but in the long run will be worth it. Will test the Pacific one too shortly.

September summary

Looking back it appears to be a very successful month, and a big turnaround from the month before. Including rakeback and bonuses, I'm made $1,600 - and actually did not have a single negative day by the looks (albeit sessions within days did have swings). That is a minor miracle. Not that I will complain. It also came with a fair bit less volume - I would have been lucky to have put in 20 hours for the month I think.

I was also on holiday at the start of the month and expected to go away so didn't really take up any extra bonus deals this month, but I think I still did okay with the bonuses/rakeback for the month. The lack of volume would also be reducing my rakeback.

Must confess though that a lot of the month was spent back down at the $1/2 (a lot!) and $2/4 tables, regaining confidence from the prior month, as well as being partly enforced on Bodog as I didn't keep enough of my roll on there for $4/8, and they don't have $2/4 or $3/6 tables running at 6max.

I guess my other key thinking around poker this month came with the development of my cash out strategy, which resulted in some decent cash outs when the $A had dropped significantly versus the $US, and my timing appears to have been quite good.

Last month's goals for September:

  • Play my 5 hours on William Hill for the $50 bonus (yep)
  • Clear my last reload of $60 on cake (yep .. although was only $50 left)
  • Maybe find a new site to play on and score some new bonuses (yep - signed up on Pacific under a good deal)
  • Would be nice to actually win from play :) (yep)

The gain of $1,600 for the month was made up of:

Bonuses/VIP: $420

  • William Hill: $50 for 5 hours play bonus
  • Cake: $50 reload bonus
  • Bodog: $160
  • Rakebackstat: $110
  • Party: $50

Rakeback: $100

  • William Hill: $10
  • Cake: $30
  • Fulltilt: $60

Poker winnings / (losses): $1,080 (solid for my volume)

For October the goals in order of priority are:

  • Play my 5 hours on William Hill for the $50 bonus
  • Clear as much of my Bodog bonus as possible (hopefully build my roll large enough to take a shot at $4/8)
  • Have a sniff around on Pacific under my new deal there
  • Try to get the handgrabbing software and have it running correctly on Bodog and Pacific
  • Pray for another Cake reload

Cake reload complete

Got in about two and a half hours over the weekend, which was time enough to hit the $2/4 tables on Cake to clear my latest reload in full. I think about $50 for the month which is okay.

I then withdrew most of my bankroll there, and will deposit and play there again when the next reload is offered. Till then, will give Cake a miss, as there's not much point in playing when i'm not getting both rakeback and a reload bonus.

I also reloaded on Bodog for their reload bonus, and have started clearing that. Don't quite have enough of a bankroll on there yet to risk playing $4/8, but hopefully should have shortly. If I didnt cash out about half of my bonus there to another site, i'd probably have enough, but I'd rather make sure i'm cashing out regularly there given rumors regarding the site. Can't say i've had any problems though, and cashouts have been processed within about 10 hours for me there so far.

Also just signed up to a decent Pacific deal, although the actual bonus part of the deal looks fairly tough to achieve (well except the up front payment part - although i'm still not sure exactly how many points I need to clear that even). Hadn't really researched that I need to go buy handgrabbing software for Pacific if I want to track my opponents. I might have to look into sourcing the handgrabbing software at the best deal possible. Maybe through a sign up deal somewhere and pick up the bodog handgrabber at the same time.

(Oh, and if anyone is looking for a pretty good Pacific deal flick me a message).

I'm still not 100% certain how much i'll play on pacific, but the blindman seems to think its a great site. Will see.. i'll just have to avoid the tables he's on :)

Anyways the weekend went okay, although I did lag out a couple times, so i'm not sure if my router or ISP is working 100% at the moment. Managed to make about 30BBs on a combination of $1/2 and $2/4 tables. Had a fantastic start where I did a couple of big suckouts when holding a good but 2nd best hand - which then promptly turned around when a couple fish sucked out on me over and over again. Oh well. At least the session ended up!

Might post on goals etc again soon .. or might not ... depends if I think it through any further.

Another bodog bonus cleared

Actually I need to look up when I last deposited on Bodog to see if I can reload again yet. Might have to wait another day or two but would be useful to know.

It's always nice when you log in and your bankroll is $100 higher than when you last quit. Admittedly I knew I was due a decent bonus payment but hadn't included it in my bankroll as yet.

Only got in about 20 mins of poker, but still managed to gain about 15BBs on a combination of $1/2 and $2/4 tables mixed between bodog, cake and fulltilt. No real interesting hands, although one guy was quite good to me as he was quite aggro, and raised a 3 way hand on every street with a flush draw versus my top pair 2nd kicker only, on a board that had draws for both a flush and straight which all missed. I did battle to find a decent fulltilt table, although eventually got on one with a bunch of tight passives, and one very loose passive that I had position on.

Should have a few more bonus $ coming my way from Bodog as well. The next consideration for me will be whether to withdraw again from Bodog next month, or let my roll keep building up on that site so that I can play some more $4/8 there again. I'm kinda leaning towards the latter option, as it would be good to play some larger stakes again on there. Its a bit annoying they don't have $3/6 or $2/4 6max tables there.

I've also noticed that with the interest i'm earning from my withdrawals, i've almost paid off the interest debt from my initial bankroll investment online. (I figure I have to charge myself for the time it took me to actually make my first withdrawal of my original deposit). So basically from next month on, all interest will be added back into my bankroll for an added little bonus.

6 tabling

Well usually I just go for 4 tables maximum, but i'd found a bunch of fishy tables on both cake and bodog, so rather than quit any extras that i'd put myself on the waiting list for I figured i'd open them up and then just not replace them when the table broke up.

However, in my half hour session, not a single table broke up so I just kept playing 6 tables. Go figure. I got timed out a couple times early, which was quite costly I think, although I didn't see the final board on both of them. One I had 2nd pair with the 2nd nut flush draw, and the other I had the nut flush draw. After the initial hiccup though I managed to keep on top of all the tables relatively easily. The only real issue was that fewer plays were made based on reads, and it was mostly just abc poker. I also had to concentrate pretty hard. After those initial time outs I never timed out again, although did get the warning beeps a few times.

Not sure that i'll take up 6 tabling regularly, but I might practice a bit - i'm sure it will become easier over time and will force me to make quicker decisions.

Early on I managed to scoop up a couple big pots where I had position on 2 huge fish. As an example in my notes, I had one as cold calling a raise with 23o and the other will cold call a raise with any 2 suited cards. Admittely his T5s did suck out on my on one hand when a T flopped and a T rivered against my AA, but you can't do much about that.

Anyways I think i was up around 25BBs before the fish started sucking out left and right. A fairly horrible run, and I ended back even, although given it was 6 tables there'd be a bit of rakeback there.

The session before I had tables running for about an hour. I found a juicy $2/4 table on Cake which paid me off a good 25BBs, before the $1/2 tables on Bodog took it back with horrendous beat after horrendous beat - 25BBs effectively at $1/2!!! A quick stats check on my main losing table and I had a WTSD of around 20% which is nastily low, and a W$SD of 25% which is terrible.

Current bankroll: $12,800

A session of 2 outers

My session started particularly nastily, with my first hand AK, hitting a flop of AK7, turn of 4, river 7 for numpty #1 to flip over 97o ...

About 5 hands later, I have KQ on a flop of Q63, turn K, river 6. Numpty #2 flips over 76s .. no flush draw.

A few hands later in a fairly large 4 way pot, I'm sitting on ATo with a board of T92, turn 5, river 8 ... 2 muppets show down A9 and KT, button shows down QJ for the nut straight. Can't complain too much about that one with the nut OESD on the flop for him.

Couple missed flush draws as well and i'm quickly down 25BBs. Then all of a sudden its my turn to suck out. my ATo on a board of KT6, turn 3, river A - numpty #3 shows KT.

Finally hit a flush draw or 2, and one of my favourite numpties calls me down every single hand with virtually nothing, when i've often hit TPTK or better.

One interesting hand I had AhQh in the SB, so obviously raise the one limper. BB folds, but my numpty #2 limper then calls my raise (he generally doesnt call down every hand but is often dominated). Flop is JhTh3s ... so i've got a flush draw, two overs and effectively a gutshot. I bet, he calls. Turn 7s, so I figure its worth a cbet again with all my outs. He waits till his timer is almost out and then calls. River 5d. Damn ... Do I fire a third barrel? ... Was his wait really thinking time, or was he setting me up? I fire another raise. He quickly calls so i'm briefly a little sick. He turns over 6h4h for 6 high .... ummm ... nice river call there buddy?

Anyways, ended up about 25BBs in profit for the half hour, so not too bad at all!

Current Bankroll: $12,750

Note taking discipline

Okay this post is a half tell off of myself. I'm still slaggin off in the chat window from time to time after a particularly nasty beat - which is just plain stupid - not only is it a break in my concentration, it may also scare the fishes off, and that time could be better spent doing a solid note on what the fish had preflop, what position they were in, and what action they took.

Maybe I should just get myself chat banned, so then I can't chat any crap. I read someone once did that every time they joined a new site. Actually I think i'll try to rely on self discipline for a bit.

Anyways, put in about half an hour, with a few $1/2 tables on Cake and Bodog, and a hugely juicy $2/4 table on Fulltilt. The Bodog servers seemed to be having a few issues and the software was lagging something fierce, so I had to quit my tables there after not very long. At least I know their allin protection on disconnects work.

The fish on fulltilt were fairly kind to me. I started by hitting a flush draw early for about 6BBs, and then fluctuated around that mark for a bit, before my AQ TPTK held up to take down a 15BB pot. Ended up around 15BBs in total for the session there, as well as a similar amount on my combined Bodog/Cake tables.

:( ..... :)

Hmmmm ... what a session.

Put in an hour on Cake/Bodog. The first half of the session I couldn't win a thing.

In the first half hour:
  • On table 1 I had a zero % went to showdown. Nothing, nada.
  • On table 2 I had a zero % won $ at showdown
  • On table 3 I had a zero % won $ at showdown
  • On table 4 I had a 30% went to showdown combined with a 25% W$SD ...
  • overall 55BBs down ... OUCH ... every suckout possible seemed to hit against me.

In the second half hour

  • On ALL tables had a WTSD of approx 40%
  • My lowest W$SD was 55%, highest 75%
  • Overall 75BBs up.

Overall: 20BBs up

Woulda been another briliant session if I hadn't started so horribly, but that, as they say, is variance.

Still trundling along

Got in about an hour and a half on the weekend so far, and have been concentrating on finishing my bodog bonus for the month, as well as a bit of Cake, and a little fulltilt if there aren't enough tables available on those other two sites.

Can't say I have the hand histories of any of them since mostly it was Cake/Bodog but I did have a pretty hot run. Had the usual suckouts for some horrendous beats, but these same fish kept paying me off over and over and over again.

Ended up about 75BBs for the session in total, however, almost entirely at $1/2.

Current bankroll: $12,550

Party bonus

Got in about an hour last night, and started horribly quickly dropping 20BBs on Party $2/4 tables. I missed 5 draws in a row which does hurt a bit. Compounding that problem was that I couldnt find a fish anywhere. Every table I opened had a VPIP of about 25% which is never going to be profitable.

At the same time I had a couple Bodog tables open, and they were running super hot. Every draw would hit, every cbet would get my opponent(s) to fold. I would have been up a good 30BBs in a very short period.

I dunno .. maybe $2/4 is just no good on Party ... or at least when everyone is on trying to clear this reload bonus.

The second half of my session on Party was much better though, and I recovered a good 15BBs - couple hands from the seconds half of the session are shown below. Finally found myself a table with a couple fish as well as the usual lag/tags which helped a lot. Cleared the first $10 of my reload bonus, and that's going to be enough party for me for now. Table selection there has been a pain and is quite off putting.

That being said, Party also gave me a $10 free money bonus, which was restricted from cash out until I had earnt 80 party points. The important thing about this bonus though, is that any winnings are not restricted. So by playing a hand of blackjack, and then quitting when I won, I managed to spin that up to $50 before losing my initial $10. This will be added to my poker bankroll since i've only made it because of Poker.

Obviously you have to have a real money Party account to actually receive any of these offers, so i'd recommend opening one at some stage - feel free to use my link on the right to go through PSO for their bonus $ as well :)

Hands

Thought i'd just post a couple hands - one to check my line - I suspect I went too passive, and the other as I thought it was a bit unusual although I played it in a standard way (I think).

Hand 1:

Pre-Flop (1.5 SB, 6 players) Hero is CO with QsJh

2 folds, Hero raises, BTN calls, SB calls, BB calls
Flop (8.0 SB, 4 players)

Ac9sQc (hmm 2nd pair but the A kinda sux)

SB checks, BB bets, Hero raises, 1 fold, SB folds, BB calls (BB was a bit of a lag ... I think i'll reraise here for a free river card)
Turn (6.0 BB, 2 players)

5s (blank .. hopefully i'm in okay shape)

BB checks, Hero checks (still not convinced i'm in front .. will just check behind)
River (6.0 BB, 2 players)

Ks (hmmm another over to my pair .. hits the gutshot, completes the draw .. but surely those draws would have raised the turn?)

BB checks, Hero checks (i'm not super confident here. I think i just want to see a showdown)

Hand 2:

Pre-Flop (1.5 SB, 6 players) Hero is UTG+1 with TsTd

1 fold, Hero raises, 1 fold, BTN calls, SB calls, BB calls (not overly happy with all these callers preflop. any overcard is going to suck)
Flop (8.0 SB, 4 players)

5s3dTc (hahaha .. kaching!!)

SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, BTN raises (damn dont want them scared off yet), SB calls (awesome ty), BB folds, Hero 3-bets (may as well pump the pot now given at least one of these guys has a piece of it), BTN calls, SB calls
Turn (8.5 BB, 3 players)

7d (well surely no one has 46 ... surely ... and even if they did I still have my 4 outs to the boat)

SB checks, Hero bets, BTN folds, SB raises, Hero 3-bets, SB calls (interesting .. c/r from the sb .. i cant see him calling with 46 in the sb .. he was reasonably tight. Might be concerned if he capped but i'd still be at least calling down and probably raising the river)
River (14.5 BB, 2 players)

2c (nice)

SB checks, Hero bets, SB calls
Final Pot: 16.5 BB
SB shows 5h5c (hehe set over set ... and he slowplayed the flop to c/r the turn ... i'd possibly do the same)
Hero shows TsTd

Hero wins 15.8 BB ( won +9.2 BB )
BTN lost -2.5 BB
SB lost -6.5 BB
BB lost -1.0 BB

Party reload

Thought i'd give the Party reload a shot, so deposited the minimum neteller deposit of $50. Checked my bonus and its 80 points to clear each $10. Since its only an 8x bonus, I think i'll clear one lot of the $10 only.

Fired up a couple $2/4 tables on Party and a couple on Cake for a session that lasted a bit under an hour. It actually only took me 4 tables on Party before I found two good one's worth playing on. Although admittedly one of them only had one huge fish but I had perfect position on him so decided to stay until he lost all his cash.

I had a pretty decent run on party after losing a couple nasty early beats, I ended the session around 25BBs up. Cake ended up only a few BBs but I hadn't had a lot of luck on there throughout the session. It was quite a swingy session actually with a lot of fairly large pots (15BB+) being contested by multiple players - i think mainly due to me being fairly aggressive and a couple fishes calling with bottom pair, no kicker .. or worse ...

I've cleared about 40 points of the party bonus in that time, so still have another 40 to go. Hopefully I have as much success on the tables whilst clearing the last 40.

Anyways, i've posted a few hands in the entry below.

Current Bankroll: $12,300

Hands

Unfortunately my favourite hand of the session was on Cake so I dont have the hand history.

I was in the BB on a quite fishy $2/4 table - tags to my left, fish on my right so with great position relative to player strengths. One fish limped in early and another fish over limped, and so I got to check in the BB with 87o. Flop was 9TJr so I flopped the bottom end of the straight.

Anyways, I bet out and get raised by open limping fish, other fish calls so I reraise. Both fish call. Turn was an A which is a pretty great card for me I think which i'm hoping 2 pairs one of the fish. I bet out, one caller. I'm not really concerned with KQ since they limped in preflop, but since they were fishy it was a remote possibility. River is a 3, which I bet out. He raises, and I consider for a second before reraising - if he has it, good on him. He calls.

Hand 2:

Pre-Flop (1.5 SB, 6 players) Hero is UTG with JcJs (handy start)

Hero raises, UTG+1 3-bets, CO calls, 2 folds, BB calls (umm?), Hero 4-bets, UTG+1 calls, CO calls, BB calls
Flop (16.5 SB, 4 players)

2c2d2s (handy flop there .. behind AA, QQ, KK .. ahead of everything else)

BB checks, Hero bets, UTG+1 calls, CO calls, BB calls (looks like i'm in front)
Turn (10.2 BB, 4 players)

Td

BB checks, Hero bets, 1 fold, CO calls, BB calls (now i'm pretty sure i'm in front .. arent I?)
River (13.2 BB, 3 players)

3h

BB checks, Hero bets, CO folds, BB folds (value bet)

Hand 3:

Pre-Flop (1.5 SB, 6 players) Hero is BTN with AhQc

UTG calls (fishy), 2 folds, Hero raises, SB 3-bets (hmm) , BB calls, UTG calls, Hero calls
Flop (12.0 SB, 4 players)

QhJs3s (not bad ... 2s is a bit annoying)

SB bets, BB calls, UTG calls, Hero calls (I was thinking of whether to raise here or not. I'm not really happy with the 2 overcallers - does someone have trips? surely UTG doesnt have QQ?)
Turn (8.0 BB, 4 players)

8s (hmm FD has hit and oesd t9 with 3 runners still in ...)

SB bets, BB calls, UTG calls, Hero calls (only 1 bet to me to call and i'm closing the action)
River (12.0 BB, 4 players)

4h (finally a blank!)

SB bets, 1 fold, UTG calls, Hero calls (hmmm 1 to me again and closing I think i'll look)

Hand 4:

Pre-Flop (1.5 SB, 6 players) Hero is SB with KhJh

1 fold, UTG+1 raises, 2 folds, Hero 3-bets, 1 fold, UTG+1 calls (UTG+1 was kinda aggro)
Flop (7.0 SB, 2 players)

QsJd6s (hmm 2nd pair ... okay)

Hero bets, UTG+1 calls (cbet)
Turn (4.5 BB, 2 players)

9s (not the greatest card with qj on the board, and it completes the flush draw)

Hero bets, UTG+1 calls (think i'll cbet again here anyways .. hoping for a fold)
River (6.5 BB, 2 players)

Kd (okay now I have 2 pair so its a bit of an improvement BUT concerned that if he holds a T the OESD is now complete)

Hero checks, UTG+1 bets, Hero calls (think it might be safest to check/call)

Hand 5:

Pre-Flop (1.5 SB, 6 players) Hero is SB with Td2d

2 folds, CO calls, 1 fold, Hero calls, BB checks (okay a super loose call but both CO and BB were very passive)
Flop (3.0 SB, 3 players)

2s6h4d (3rd pair ... could be worse)

Hero bets, BB raises, CO folds, Hero calls (might try a steal ... a little sick with the reraise. I think I have odds to call the raise though ... surely he doesnt have 53 ..)
Turn (3.5 BB, 2 players)

Ts (nice ... now I have 2 pair including the top pair)

Hero bets, BB raises, Hero 3-bets, BB calls (can't remember my logic behind the donk. Very glad he just called my 3 bet. I suspect the 3bet is loose).
River (9.5 BB, 2 players)

5d (hmmm not a great card ... hope he doesnt have a 3)

(should I bet out to represent a big hand ... although should I check to see a cheap showdown or induce a bluff?)

Nvidia 9600GT cropping on Plasma

Well ... replacing my graphics card kinda cut into my poker time yesterday. Spent about an hour and a half trying to fix it, searching for a solution on the web, playing with settings etc.

For some reason it was cropping a number of pixels off every side of my plasma TV, which is obviously unacceptable.

But bugger me, the fix was simple in the end ... all I had to do was uncheck a box that said to recognise the TV as a HDTV .... now why on earth this would make a difference has me miffed ... and why its not documented anywhere as the solution is even more mystifying.

Anyways back to poker. Put in a bit under half an hour on Cake and Bodog with a mix of $2/4 and $1/2 tables. Started poorly again with my first hand scoring 88 in the BB and had a board of J4572 ... my one opponent had J9s. However after that it was a steady stream of BBs being added to my stack as the fish kept calling me down every time that I had either top pair or better. Forgot to copy any hands out of Bodog for conversion .. but can't actually remember too many interesting ones.

Overall made about 20BBs which isn't too bad. I'm actually having a fairly steady run this month - not too many losses, but no big wins either. Actually I quite like it that way.

Couple hands from the session

Hand 1:

$2/$4 Limit Holdem • 5 Players (my second hand of the session. one guy sitting out)

Pre-Flop (1.5 SB, 5 players) Hero is SB with QQ

UTG raises, 2 folds, Hero 3-bets, BB calls, UTG 4-bets, Hero calls, BB calls (hmm 4 bet ...)
Flop (12.0 SB, 3 players)

4s7d6c

Hero bets, BB calls, UTG raises, Hero 3-bets, BB folds, UTG 4-bets, Hero calls (hmm ...)
Turn (10.5 BB, 2 players)

Ks (ack .. one of the two worst cards for me ...)

Hero checks, UTG bets, Hero calls
River (12.5 BB, 2 players)

Jh (not a terrible card..lets see a showdown)

Hero checks, UTG bets, Hero calls

Hand 2:

$2/$4 Limit Holdem • 6 Players
Pre-Flop (1.5 SB, 6 players) Hero is UTG with KK (woohoo!)

Hero raises, 3 folds, SB calls, BB calls (can live with this)
Flop (6.0 SB, 3 players)

TdQdQs (hmm .. paired, 2 suited, and potential straight draws .. not ideal really)

SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, SB calls, BB folds (i'm taking a stab here - hopefully I have the best hand)
Turn (4.0 BB, 2 players)

3s (hmmm now double suited .. but not a bad card really. no straight or FD gets there)

SB checks, Hero bets, SB raises, Hero calls (not really expecting the raise here - trips? pocket pair? surely a draw would have raised earlier?)
River (8.0 BB, 2 players)

Ah (well that's annoying)

SB checks, Hero checks (hmm he checked ... goin for the double checkraise? or scared of the A? ... i will check behind as I really dont want to get checkraised again)

Any comments?

New note to self ... post hands first so they appear below the main post ....

Keeping motivated

Motivated. Thas was the word I was looking for.

I just realised I have gradually become less motivated to play over the last couple months. But since it was happening so slowly I failed to actually notice my change in motivation.

As soon as I wrote down and applied my cash out strategy however, it gave me a new goal and new sense of direction. Now i'm really looking forward to attempting to hit that $14k barrier so that I can cash out again, and all of a sudden I am extremely keen on hitting the tables again. I guess that's an added benefit of setting myself those goals the other day.

My last session went for a little under an hour, and was mainly at $1/2 as I try to finish off my William Hill monthly $50 bonus, as well as having a couple Bodog tables open to clear some more of my bonus there before it runs out on the 26th. Turned out to be a nice little session where I made about 25BBs excluding bonuses. I'll post a couple hands in a separate post.

The session finished on a sour note .. my Gigabyte 8600GT graphics card decided to stop outputting to my TV. A few minutes later, it decided to stop outputting to my monitor as well. Couple hours later, its working back to my monitor, but as soon as I flick it to the TV as well, the monitor flicks off. Reboot, and now nothing's going. I think it is fried, so will buy another today. Might upgrade to a 9600GT I think.

Then this morning I get an email from Party of a reload bonus of 100% up to $500 which clears in $100 increments ... however ... it is unclear as to how many points you need to clear each increment, so I might wait for some clarification on 2p2.

You know its not your day when ...

Your first hand is KK ... lose to runner runner flush
Your second hand is AA ... lose to a rivered gutshot
Your 3rd hand is QQ where you get to 3bet preflop, and get 3 callers, flop is AKx

All in all on Saturday I managed to drop about 30BBs at $2/4 in a little under an hour's play. I guess after that start its not too bad, but boy were those tables fishy. Just couldn't catch a break. It happens sometimes.

However, Sunday was a very different story. Again played about an hour, mixed between $2/4 and $1/2 but couldn't get a premium starting hand. I did receive quite a few marginal or slightly better than marginal starting hands though, and they kept hitting the flop. Hard.

Ended up around 60BBs, although to be honest there weren't all that many interesting hands. That is variance for you .. some days you just don't hit a thing, the next everything comes home. I just had my hands hit more than average, as well as had a couple fish who liked to call down with very very little. One guy was even complaining about the play of other players, but when he showed down a cold call of a raise and a call on every street with T8o on a board showing AKT52 I just had a bit of a chuckle about him giving advice to others.

Should also have cleared a few more bonus $. Will see in a day or so when they update.

How would you play these?

Reasonable session of almost an hour with a mix of $1/2 and $2/4 games. Only problem was tables were breaking up extremely quickly which made it tough to find another juicy one constantly.

One table only lasted one orbit of 4 hands. The first hand I had T3o in the BB, so obviously folded that to a raise. The rest of the hands are as follows. Would you have played any differently?

Cash out strategy

I figured it was about time I put some structure into my cashouts, as I hadn't really put too much thought into it before, which is a bit unusual for me as I'd generally think things through in advance.

As with everything I like to keep it simple, so my strategy will be to cash out $1k for every $2k my bankroll grows by. So for now i'll cash out a total of around $6,000. I think i'm highly unlikely to redeposit that again, so I will effectively have halved my bankroll. This means that I will bankroll manage based on half my existing roll.

So ... that effectively cuts out playing $4/8 for the moment as i'm well under the 1,000BBs i've set myself as a basic minimum. It also limits my $3/6 to fishy tables ... but that is basically a given for me anyways as I refuse to play on tight tables.

However, at the same time, that $6k i've cashed out makes me about $40 a month in interest, so if I ever do manage to lose the rest of my bankroll, I could conceivably just wait for a month and cash back in for $40 and work from there. (well that and the fact that $40 a month quickly adds to $500 in a year so I could jump limits at the microstakes levels pretty quickly). I suspect losing $6k though is highly unlikely.

Now as far as my latest actual play goes, I put in all of 15 minutes yesterday basically on fulltilt as I could not find any fishy tables on the other sites. Boy was it an uneventful session. Played about 3 tables of $3/6 and apart from a few cbets, one hit draw and a couple missed draws, literally the rest were fold fold fold. Ended up around 10BBs though, so can't complain!

Musical chairs

Bugger me if it wasn't a tough session last night. In the space of an hour I think I opened and closed literally 20 tables.

I was trying to do my time bonus on William Hill initially, and found a couple nice tables with the avg players per pot a little over 50%. About 5 hands later and both tables had dropped to 25% and all I could see were TAGS and rocks. Exit as soon as the BB gets back to me.

I'm then playing a bit of Fulltilt and find some nice juicy 60% players seeing the flop. 2 orbits later and its in the low 30s. Exit stage left.

Bodog I had one table, which broke up about 2 orbits after I started there.

Luckily Cake had a couple fishy tables, where I had perfect position on a fish, and was able to stay for a few more than 10 hands. Although it was a hugely frustrating session and I did indeed tilt as follows:

Seat 1: sebermel ($87.86 in chips)
Seat 5: Doener5dm ($153.65 in chips) DEALER
Seat 6: noiq555 ($155.45 in chips)
Seat 8: Hero ($84.20 in chips)
Seat 10: Fredddyy ($84.75 in chips)
noiq555: Post SB $1.00
Hero: Post BB $2.00
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Hero [S9 SK]
Fredddyy: Fold
sebermel: Call $2.00
Doener5dm: Fold
noiq555: Call $1.00
Hero: Check (didn't think i was strong enough to raise here, but I think I should have. Sebermel was the fish of the table with a VPIP of probably around 90%)
*** FLOP *** [CJ D9 HQ]
noiq555: Check
Hero: Bet $2.00 (well, with one guy checking I might take a stab here with bottom pair)
sebermel: Call $2.00
noiq555: Fold (good)
*** TURN *** [H5]
Hero: Bet $4.00 (hmm blank, may as well take another stab)
sebermel: Call $4.00 (oh oh)
*** RIVER *** [HA] (ack)
Hero: Check
sebermel: Bet $4.00
Hero: Call $4.00 (this guy could have literally any 2 ... he actually called a river raise with 3 high earlier ... 23o in his hand ..)
*** SUMMARY ***
Dealt to sebermel [H6 H8] (wtf ... bottom end of a gutshot straight draw and he hits his BDFD .. f me)
sebermel: wins $24.70

That was about the 4th bad beat he'd put on me and I am sure I tilted in the following hand:

Seat 1: sebermel ($112.16 in chips) DEALER
Seat 3: Nebosenko ($98.00 in chips)
Seat 6: noiq555 ($153.45 in chips)
Seat 8: Hero ($74.20 in chips)
Seat 10: Fredddyy ($71.75 in chips)
Nebosenko: Post SB $1.00
noiq555: Post BB $2.00
*** HOLE CARDS ***

Doener5dm: Sitout
Hero: Raise (NF) $4.00 (okay this raise is a bit on the tilty side)
Fredddyy: Fold
sebermel: Raise (NF) $6.00 (hmm damn)
Nebosenko: Fold
noiq555: Fold
Hero: Call $2.00
*** FLOP *** [DJ C6 H4] (right i've flopped total air .. absolutely nothing)

sebermel: Bet $2.00
Hero: Call $2.00 (wtf am I doin)
*** TURN *** [D5] (wow i now have a gutshot and nothin else)
Hero: Check
sebermel: Bet $4.00
Hero: Call $4.00 (wtf am I doin???)
*** RIVER *** [C7] (omfg .. that is a miracle that I don't deserver)
Hero: Check (lets checkraise here. there's no way i'm behind)
sebermel: Bet $4.00 (nice)
Hero: Raise (NF) $8.00
sebermel: Raise (NF) $12.00 (OMFG .. awesome ty very much)
Hero: Raise (NF) $16.00
sebermel: Call $4.00
*** SUMMARY ***
Dealt to sebermel [D4 S4] (wtf .. he 3bet me preflop with 44??)
Hero: wins $56.05

Anyways, since I tilted I knew I had to quit all tables and pack up for the day. There's no way i'll let myself play in that state.

Turned out okay all up though for about another $100ish.

Current Bankroll: $11,850

Note to self: next blog cash out strategy. also debate not showing results of hands to get more meaningful comments.

Unlucky fish

Played a very brief session on Bodog for probably my final $4/8 table there. I think I played a total of 3 orbits, however came out about 15BBs up.

One guy was particularly unlucky - he sat down with 10BBs on my left just as the BB got to me for my second orbit. I guess sittin down with only 10BBs is askin for trouble on a limit table, and it did prove a problem for him.

First hand he has raised UTG and I was the only caller in the BB with A8s. Flop was A72r, which I checked and he bet. I decided to play the hand passively here, as i'm sure i'd normally check raise, but I simply called his bet. Turn was a 3, which I simply checked and he bet. Again I called. River was a K which I actually donked into. He called showing 99. I'm sure I played that poorly.

Next hand i'm sitting on AKo in the sb. Again my opponent has open raised from middle position, which is folded to me so I reraise. Flop is AT4r. I bet he calls. Turn is a 7, I bet, he calls. River is a K, I bet he calls and shows AQs. So there's most of his stack already gone.

The very next hand i'm dealt AQo. This time he has open raised from the cutoff, which I then reraise from the button. Flop is A64r. He bets out, I raise. Turn is a 7 and he is all in which I call. He shows down AJo. Poor bugger, that's the end of his stack in 3 hands. Hehe.

Anyways for my 15 minute session I made about $100, and have received my rakeback/bonus cash from the other day which was a bit over $50.

Wheel spinning on Bodog

Put in a solid 2 hour session on Bodog with mostly 4 $1/2 tables open.

Rapidly started down about 25BBs, as the fish were killing me. I'd have top pair v a flush draw, but in this case the flush draw would miss on the river, however, it would hit my opponents two pair ..... a few other nasties didnt help like my AA getting destroyed by 86o.

Anyways, by the end I was back to even but it was slow goin gradually eeking back up, as some of my big hands held up. Interestingly though at one stage I had a won $ at showdown of 17%. Not good!

At least I should earn about $40 in bonus cash for the session.

Hardly any play, but at least making a few bonus $

Well, I think i've played all of maybe half an hour since my last post, so its been a pretty quiet poker week.

I've played that almost entirely on Bodog, where my balance basically has not moved, but at least i've cleared another $20 or so in bonus, and should have about $10 in cashback too.

Anyways, I might get a bit more play next week, but should be going away at some stage which will put a dent in that.

Will be a slow start to September by the looks!

I have however cashed out another $2k, so i'm currently earning a bit over $1 in interest per day from my cash withdrawals, which doesn't sound like too much but does add up to about $40 per month, or $500 per year, which is a few BBs for doing nothing at all.

AAAA

Only had another smallish session, maybe a bit under one hour on Bodog/William Hill as I continue to clear my reload and time bonus.

Didn't have too many interesting hands - just the usual horrendous beat with someone hitting their 2 outer here and there, and me missing a bunch of draws before finally hitting about 3 in a row.

Anyways, I finally have hit quad aces. Interestingly it was a blind battle with me holding A9o in the sb, obviously raising preflop in an attempt to steal. Flop was AA6, which I bet and he called. Turn A .. kaching! I bet he called, River T, I bet, he called with a pair of 8s. So I even got to show it down.

Was playing mostly on the $1/2 tables and made around 25BBs for the session 3 or 4 tabling.

Current Bankroll: $11,600

The best laid plans ...

Well, I should be off on holidays now, but my girlfriend is too sick to fly with an ear infection.

What does that mean for my poker ... well i'll probably get in a few hours, but as soon as she's okay we'll take off.

Anyways, since I dont know exactly when i'm going I wont start any new deals. So I will do a bit of Cake and Bodog to clear their reloads, and maybe a bit of fulltilt for pure rackback, as well as getting around to William Hill sooner or later for the 5 hours that I must do there every month.

So in about 2 hours since my last post i've made about 25BBs on Cake $2/4 tables. The rest are fairly neutral.
